Check what your business looks like online

Enter a business name or website. We read the public Google listing and load the site the way a customer would, then report what is there, what is missing, and what we could not check.

How to use it

  1. Type the business name and town, or paste the website address.
  2. The check takes about a minute. The Google listing is read first, then the site is opened in a real browser.
  3. You get a list of findings, each with the observation it came from.

What it looks at

  • The Google Business Profile: hours, categories, phone, photos, whether a website is linked, review count and rating.
  • The website itself, loaded in a real browser at desktop width: what actually renders, broken images, whether there is any way to get in touch or book.
  • Whether the site looks like it is run through an agency tracking layer, which changes who you would have to call to get anything changed.

What it will not tell you

Worth reading before the results, because a check that quietly skipped something is worse than one that says it did.

  • We do not judge whether the business is still trading. Google returns at most five reviews, chosen by relevance rather than recency, which is not enough to tell a quiet month from a closed business. Guessing from it would be worse than not saying.
  • We do not rank you against competitors. That needs paid data we would have to charge for.
  • We do not check anything behind a login, and a site that blocks automated browsers is reported as blocked rather than as broken.

Questions

Is this free?

Yes, and there is no email wall. The full report is on the page. There is a limit of five checks an hour from one connection, because each check opens a real browser and costs us money to run.

Where does the data come from?

The Google Places API for the listing, and a real headless browser for the site. Nothing is scraped from third-party SEO databases, so there are no numbers here we cannot show you the source of.

Do you store my results?

The report is kept for seven days so the link keeps working and a repeat check does not cost a second run. We store a hash of your IP address for rate limiting, not the address.

Why does it say it could not check something?

Because it could not. Anything we were unable to observe is listed as unknown rather than being folded into the findings as if it passed. A check that reports no problems because it never ran is worse than no check.

Ontfly builds the site, puts it on a domain and runs what sits behind it. If this turned up something worth fixing, describe your business and see what it makes.
